Sunday 22nd March – Hike (snow shoe) **** light snow with a little sun and a lot of cloud!
Les Molliettes – Les Betex – Bresy – Le Grand Planey – Canevet – Praz de Lys
3.56 n. miles – 3 hours 15 mins

After a lie in watching the snow falling outside we decided to get the snow shoes on and walk on the side of Praz de Lys we didn’t walk last time. By the time we had got our coats etc., on and got the snow shoes out of the top box and actually started walking it had stopped snowing and we had way to many clothes on! It was a funny day for weather, snowing this morning then low white cloud/mist/fog of varying degrees for the rest of the day. We walked away from Les Moliettes where we are parked at the Haut Fleury lift and over towards the Grand Planey. It was quite a steep rise out of the village and we were quite out of puff! Lack of exercise yesterday I reckon! We pushed on up to where the path turns into a skido park (none in sight today) and then made our own path by cutting down the mountain on the other side of the ridge near to the black Le Planey runs we were on the other day. We could see some low cloud sneaking in below us and by the time we had walked through some remote chalets we found ourselves at the Canevet lift with absolutely no visibility! We walked up the Canevet piste following the piste poles and decided to stop for our lunch in some trees about half way up. As we sat down the cloud suddenly disappeared and we could see the mountain and all the pistes. We carried on through the trees until we came out at the top of the piste and found our way round the top of Praz de Lys centre back to the van with the cloud making even that a bit tricky – we were mainly guided by the sound of the Haut Fleury lift! We had walked just over 4 miles and been out over 3 hours. No sooner had we got back and put the kettle on than the sun came out and the cloud disappeared for a while. It was still here when it got dark so we have got our fingers crossed that it clears out overnight to let us ski for the last day tomorrow! The weather on the phone has 4 sunshine symbols so we hope that is true!!
